Every tree has a special story and Boskoop is in its DNA.
Many hundreds of years ago, people realised that the soil under Boskoop was extremely suitable for tree cultivation. At first, this mainly involved the cultivation of fruit trees. Because of this, several types of fruit have been named after the municipality: the “beauty of Boskoop” (also known as the ‘goudreinette’), but also a grape variety, the “glory of Boskoop”. From the 15th century onwards, more trees were produced instead of fruit and other ornamental plants were introduced. In the beginning many Azaleas, Rhododendrons and Roses, but nowadays the range is much wider.
KVBC inspection
Dozens of new varieties of garden plants are grown every year. To determine whether this is an improvement and which selection is the most beautiful and best for the garden, the KVBC carries out inspections. The members of the KVBC include growers, trading companies, horticulturalists and large-scale greenery suppliers and enthusiasts. The KVBC advises its members and consumers in making choices in the assortment and garden by:

Twisty Silver Birch tree - BETULA PENDULA ‘SPIDER ALLEY’
Small deciduous tree with unique decoratively twisted branches and twigs. Fresh green to dark green leaves, autumn colour is brownish yellow. Hardy, does not need pruning.
Red hearts tree - CERCIS CANADENSIS ‘FOREST PANSY’
Deciduous broad shrub to small tree with a fan-shaped growth form. Purple-red and heart-shaped leaves. Lilac-pink flowers on older branches and stem in April-May. Hardy, does not need pruning.
Yellow hearts tree - CERCIS CANADENSIS ‘HEARTS OF GOLD’
Deciduous broad shrub to small tree with gracefully overhanging branches. Heart-shaped bronze-coloured orange leaves that turn golden-yellow later. Flowers light purple-pink on older branches and stem, April-May. Hardy, does not need pruning.
Pink Wedding tree - CORNUS KOUSA ‘SCARLET FIRE’
Deciduous large shrub with horizontal to slightly drooping branches. Autumn colour purple-red. Light salmon-pink to deep pink flowers, 10-12 cm across, in June-July. Hardy, no pruning required.
White Wedding tree - CORNUS VENUS
Deciduous large shrub with somewhat drooping branches. Very large white flowers, up to 15 cm, in May-June. Hardy, no pruning required.
ENKIANTHUS CAMPANULATUS ‘PAGODE’
Dense deciduous shrub with a rather slender growth form. Blooms in May with elegant hanging bells. The leaves turn an orange-red colour in autumn. Hardy, no pruning required.
Maidenhair tree - GINKGO BILOBA ‘MENHIR’
Deciduous small tree with an almost columnar growth form. Blue-green, recognisable, fan-shaped leaves. Hardy, does not need pruning.
Seven-son flower tree - HEPTACODIUM MICONIOIDES
Deciduous large shrub to small tree with a broad, upright growth form. Decorative peeling stem. White flowers, in loose panicles, followed by dark red calyxes, in September-October. Hardy, thick branches can be cut back in March.
Magnolia tree - MAGNOLIA ‘GEORGE HENRY KERN’
Regularly growing, large deciduous shrub. Flowers light pink with pink-red centre, from end of March to end of May. Hardy, no pruning required
Cherry Blossom Girl tree - PRUNUS ‘ACCOLADE’
Deciduous, broad large shrub to small tree. Flowers light pink, full double, and strongly scented before leaf development in April.
Black Lace tree - SAMBUCUS NIGRA BLACK LACE
Deciduous large shrub with a broad, upright growth form. Dark purple-brown and very decoratively incised leaves. Pink flowers in June with wide umbels. Hardy, thick branches can be cut back in March.
Golden Tower tree - SAMBUCUS NIGRA GOLDEN TOWER
Deciduous large shrub with a slender upright growth form. Bright yellow leaves that turn green-yellow later. White flowers in June with wide umbels. After flowering, shiny black berries appear. Hardy, thick branches can be cut back in March.
Snowball tree - VIBURNUM BODNANTENSE ‘CHARLES LAMONT’
Planting: Leave the pot in a bucket of water for 10 minutes, then plant in the garden. Position: sun. Flowering: January-March with white-pink flowers. Height: 2-3 m. Width: 1.5 m. Pruning: April. Suitable for decoration and not for consumption.
Kilimandjaro tree - VIBURNUM PLICATUM KILIMANDJARO
Deciduous large shrub with a pyramidal growth form. White flowers as broad flat umbels in April. After flowering, red berries appear. Hardy, no pruning required.
