Fargesia Rufa’ has the good characteristic of not growing too intensive, remaining compact and growing to an average height of 1.5 to 2 metres. It is a good bamboo to place in an area of the garden with few high plants, for example near a pond. Fargesia Rufa can also be placed in a pot, as a partition or on a balcony. With its shiny light green leaves, it brings atmosphere to your garden! The ‘Fargesia Rufa’ is one of the most Hardy bamboo species and retains its leaves even during a very harsh winter. The young stems of the bamboo are slightly reddish in colour, which complements the green leaves. These young stems change colour over time to olive green. It is not necessary to prune the bamboo, but we do advise you to do so. Especially if you have planted the ‘Fargesia’ as a hedge. Pruning a bamboo makes it fuller, more compact and keeps it nice and green from top to bottom. Prune or cut to a maximum height of one metre above the ground. The best time for this is in July or August. Make sure that there is enough water during the season.
