Clematis armandii Apple Blossom’ owes its name to the flowers, which are very similar in colour to the flowers of apple trees. The flowers are pink when in bud, the petals themselves are white with yellowish-white stamens in the centre. The flowers appear on the climber in early spring. It is an abundant bloomer, which bees love. A special feature of this climber is that it is one of the few clematis that stays green in winter. Its leaves are leathery, oblong green and very elegant. It is a climbing plant, which attaches itself with twisting leaf stems and can grow well against a fence, wall or pergola, but needs climbing wire or a climbing frame. You can help it every now and then by tying new shoots neatly along the rack or leading them through the fence. It likes a sheltered and sunny spot in the garden. The clematis will flower more abundantly if there is more sun. The clematis is Hardy to -10 degrees. Pruning the clematis is not necessary. After flowering, you can cut it back a little to encourage flowering.
