‘Clematis Rouge Cardinal’ is a Large flowers clematis with dark red to deep purple-red flowers. These flowers appear around May-June. The plant itself can grow up to 3.5 m high and has fairly light green leaves. The clematis is Hardy, but Deciduous. It is not necessary to prune this plant, but you can do so if, for example, it gets too big. Because this Large flowers clematis flowers quite early, it is advisable to prune only after flowering. In order for the clematis to climb better, it needs a little help. It is best to guide the plant upwards along a rack, wire or stick. The clematis does well in the semi-shade as well as in the sun. This makes the clematis suitable for most places in your garden, very convenient! With more sun, however, the clematis will flower more profusely. The roots of the clematis do need to be in the shade and cool. Make sure there is always something growing in front of the foot of the plant and plant the clematis deeper in the ground. This will protect it from the nasty wilting disease that can affect the stems above ground, and the plant will remain healthy below ground. If this happens, it can always sprout healthy again.
