The quince is a slow-growing tree. Its height is 3-5 m, which makes it suitable for smaller gardens. The dense crown is broad and round. The large ovoid olive green leaves are slightly hairy on the underside and have a heart-shaped leaf base. The leaves turn a striking yellow in the autumn. Cydonia blooms in May with 4-5 cm large, single flowers that are white to whitish pink in colour. After flowering, yellow pear-shaped fragrant fruits follow. Vranja’ has larger fruits than the species. These ripen only when the plant is in a sheltered, warm place. They can be used in various dishes when cooked.
