Trachelospermum Star of Ibiza’ is also called Star Jasmine because of its soft pink, star-shaped flowers. It is a Mediterranean evergreen climber and Hardy to -10˚C. It blooms profusely from the beginning of June to the end of August, during which time the flowers spread a deliciously sweet fragrance. The climber has oval, dark green leaves and needs support from a climbing frame or fence to grow well. The new branches of this star jasmine will curl up nicely along a wire mesh or fence. The best place is in the sun to half-shadow and out of the wind. Star jasmine can be planted in the full ground in normal, nutrient-rich soil. Star jasmine also grows well in a large pot on the terrace or balcony. In a sunny place it can also be used as a ground cover. The climbing plant can withstand dry periods reasonably well, but during hot and dry periods you can give it extra water. Pruning is only necessary to cut the plant into the right shape. It is best to do this in early spring or after the flowering period. Star jasmine is a fairly slow grower and it will take a number of years for it to reach its maximum height.
